Sky Striker, Six Flags Great America

UPDATE February 12, 2024 - It has now been confirmed that the new Zamperla Sky Striker will officially open at Six Flags Great America on the opening day of the 2024 season on April 20.

This may come as a surprise to many Six Flags Great America fans who may have expected a later opening date. The unusually warmer weather can be thanked for the confirmed opening date on April 20. Sky Striker is a Zamperla towering pendulum ride, swinging guests at 130-degrees, 172 feet in the air and reaching speeds of 75mph.

October 24, 2023 - It is a true but sad fact that roller coasters and attractions can not last forever. It had already been confirmed back in August that Dare Devil Dive which opened in 1997 at Six Flags Great America would not be reopening and instead will be replaced in 2024 by the new, Sky Striker.

The previous rumor regarding the removal of Mardi Gras Hangover became more of a reality recently at Six Flags Great America as a Halloween prop was added to the park showing two coffins with RIP on them. One is understandably for Dare Devil Dive and the other had two dates 2004 - and 2018 - .

Due to the dates it was predicted that Mardi Gras Hangover which opened in 2018 would be removed along side the HUSS pendulum ride, Revolution which opened in 2004. With the new Zamperla, Sky Striker opening at Six Flags Great America in 2024 it makes perfect sense for Six Flags to remove the ageing Revolution attraction.

It has now been confirmed on the official Six Flags Great America website that both Mardi Gras Hangover and Revolution will be permanently removed at the end of the 2023 season. Six Flags Great America has announced that there will be a special farewell event named, The Last Hangover on October 28 - 29, 2023.

It states, "While we will miss these attractions, it’s time to plan for future expansion!" We already know that the new Zamperla Sky Striker towering pendulum ride will open in 2024 and we await further news of what this "future expansion" will bring to the park.

On Sunday, October 29, Legacy Members will have exclusive ride time on Mardi Gras Hangover from 11:00am – 12:00pm by presenting their membership card at the ride entrance. From 12:00PM all guests will be able to ride.
