Splash Mountain, Disney

It has been a big week for Disney fans with the new name for the reimagined Splash Mountain officially being unveiled last Friday at ESSENCE FEST in New Orleans. The name, "Tiana's Bayou Adventure" pretty much sums up exactly what you are going to get and in that way it is similar to "Splash Mountain".

When I first heard it, did I like it? Well, to be honest I am still not completely sure. I think it's the "adventure" part which seems somewhat lazy and uninspiring. But, do I trust the Walt Disney Imagineers to do an amazing job in bringing this extensive reimagining to life? Absolutely.

For some die hard fans of Splash Mountain, no name however magical, would be okay but we took the opportunity to ask the question, Is "Tiana's Bayou Adventure” a good name for the re-themed Splash Mountain? Here are the results so far:

  • Yes - 28% (710 out of 2505)
  • No - 72% (1795 out of 2505)

So I guess, due to the amount of controversy about this upcoming retheme, these results are hardly surprising. Disney fans seem to fit into one of the following categories:

  • SAVE SPLASH MOUNTAIN!!
  • Love Splash Mountain but see that a retheme is understandable
  • Tiana needs her own ride!

I would say few people are sitting on the fence about this one and actually I feel sorry for the character of Tiana of who she represents because what will undoubtedly be a great attraction, for most people who grew up with Splash Mountain, it will always be tarnished with controversy.

Young Disney fans, however, we are sure will grow up with "Tiana's Bayou Adventure" as their must-ride iconic attraction at the Magic Kingdom just like a generation has grown up with Splash Mountain as theirs.

We would love to hear your suggestions of what you think would have been the perfect name for the upcoming reimagining of Splash Mountain by leaving us a comment below or on our Facebook page. If you haven't voted in our poll yet, you can do so below. For now, we are left having to get used to the name, "Tiana's Bayou Adventure”.

I don't necessarily mind the new name, but there's a missed opportunity: why couldn't they have called it "Splash Mountain: Tiana's Bayou Adventure?" similar to the Space Mountain rethemes? This way people could still refer to it as Splash Mountain, which it still is, and whilst it technically hasn't lost mountain status, I bet you'd still get people asking hay can we go on Splash Mountain, they'd check the map to find that it isn't there and might be wondering what Tiana's Bayou Adventure is.

Tiana needs her own ride or restaurant. Leave Splash Mountain alone, only a small minority deemed it racist. For the other 99% of Disney fans, they are unnecessarily destroying a beloved attraction. If so I will be only going to Tokyo Disneyland from now on - who have common sense and will keep the fan favourite ride. It's not too late to make this right, Disney..

I will forever call it "woke mountain" once it is renamed.

What I want to know is if it will still have a mountain that splashes you or not? What I don't like about the new name is that it does not answer this question.

It’s not a great name. But, I remember a lot of people thought Splash Mountain was a bad name. The original name was proposed as Zip a Dee Doo Dah! People will probably refer to the new attraction as Tiana or Princess and the Frog. The actual name doesn’t matter. Tron, Guardians, Thunder Mountain, Pirates, Indiana Jones…so many attractions earn a shorter references.
