Cedar Point has released a statement saying that the Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster will not operate for the rest of 2021 while an investigation is ongoing regarding an accident this past weekend where a guest waiting in line was  struck by a metal object that fell from the roller coaster. The condition of the guest that suffered the injury is unknown, and exactly what the metal piece was that became dislodged from the ride has not been released either. 

However, as the result is ongoing we expect to get more details about what went wrong with this ride, and when (or if) we can expect a reopening of Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point in 2022. 

When it debuted in 2003, Top Thrill Dragster was the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world, with a top speed of 120 mph and height of 420 feet. A hydraulic launch system speeds riders from zero to 120 mph in four seconds.
