Rock and Rollercoaster, Disney

Disney parks are constantly changing their refurbishment schedules, making it difficult for guests to keep up with the operating times and latest news regarding their favorite attractions, resorts, shops, and restaurants. Here are a few big, upcoming changes that are either confirmed by their respective parks or at the least very strongly rumored for the very near future.

Last month we saw Harmonious at EPCOT and Disney's Enchantment at the Magic Kingdom perform for the final times and we see the return of EPCOT Forever and Happily Ever After.

This month, the popular Rock 'n' Rollercoaster Starring Aerosmith at Disney's Hollywood Studios continues its closure for its extended refurbishment and Splash Mountain remains closed in order to undergo its reimagining to Tiana's Bayou Adventure which is set to open in late 2024. Blizzard Beach also remains closed with a reopening still not in sight and at Disney's Magic Kingdom we continue to await news on rumors that one show and one experience may never return to Walt Disney World.

1. Rock 'n' Rollercoaster Starring Aerosmith (Disney's Hollywood Studios)

Status: Confirmed

Dates: February 21, 2023 - Summer 2023

The popular Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will closed on February 20, 2023 for an extensive refurbishment and is currently not set to reopen until Summer 2023.

With news of this refurbishment on the official Walt Disney World website and recent allegations brought against Aerosmith lead, Steven Tyler, this has naturally got Disney fans speculating further about whether Aerosmith will remain and if Disney is looking to replace this classic with a new theme. Disney has so far not confirmed whether a change of theme is on the cards and we will bring you further details regarding this if and when it is announced.

2. The Boneyard (Disney's Animal Kingdom)

Status: Confirmed

Dates: May 1, 2023 - mid June

The Bone Yard Fossil Fun Site in Dinoland at Disney's Animal Kingdom is now closed for refurbishment. It is expected to reopen in mid June. This site is great for kids aged 10 and under where they can dig for dinosaur bones and enjoy climbing through caves and going across rope bridges and down slides.

3. Blizzard Beach

Status: Confirmed

Dates: March 18 - TBA 2023

Blizzard Beach reopened in November 2022 having been closed since January 2022 for refurbishment. At this point, Disney's Typhoon Lagoon closed for its annual refurbishment. It was announced that Blizzard Beach would close again at the end of the day on March 18 for further refurbishment. Disney's Typhoon Lagoon reopened on March 19.

Disney has not released a time line for this current refurbishment and we are therefore unsure when Blizzard Beach will reopen but we are hoping that we will see both Disney water parks operating at the same time in the near future and particularly at some point over the summer months.

4. Voyage Of The Little Mermaid (Disney's Hollywood Studios)

Status: Confirmed

Dates: March 2020 - TBA

Voyage of the Little Mermaid at Disney's Hollywood Studios is the one show that Disney has remained quiet about since the theme parks reopened in July 2020 after the closures due to COVID-19 which began in March 2020.

Well, it now looks like the official website page for the Voyage of the Little Mermaid has been deleted and now only reads "Someone Ate the Page!" with a picture of Stitch on it.

Voyage of the Little Mermaid was a spectacular indoor show at Disney's Hollywood Studios retelling the story of The Little Mermaid live, with Ariel, Flounder, and all their underwater (and land) friends. The story was retold with memorable songs and colorful puppets.

There have been rumors floated that there could be an Encanto themed show to replace the Voyage of the Little Mermaid. We know there has been a lot of noise about bringing an Encanto themed attraction to Walt Disney World and this location would certainly be ideal to showcase the extremely successful Madrigals! There has not be anything confirmed by Disney so far and we will keep you updated on the fate of Voyage of the Little Mermaid as and when it is announced.
