So why is the Omnimover so important?
While attractions using the Omnimover ride system may not be particularly thrill-based, the Omnimover serves as the perfect system for a storytelling experience, just as Imagineers originally intended.
Much like the Haunted Mansion or The Seas With Nemo and Friends illustrate a specific tale by moving through each of the ride’s scenes, the Omnimover is the ideal vessel for a family-friendly attraction.
Both the chain design, combined with their constant motion minimizes loading time, leading many of these attractions to be affectionately dubbed “People-eaters.” These People-eater attractions can cycle guests through at a faster rate than attractions with a more traditional operational run, which is often considered one of the key benefits of the Omnimover system.
Given the variations that can be made to the Omnimover as well as its versatility in presenting various different attraction themes, non-Disney parks around the globe have used it within their attractions, instead referring to it as the Endless Transit system.
Hershey’s Chocolate World, Universal Studios Japan & Europa-Park are just a few of the international parks to feature their own Omnimover attractions, highlighting the truly adaptable nature of the system as each of these rides tells its own specific story.
The Omnimover’s ability to provide the basis for a story-telling ride makes it a near-timeless foundation for a theme park attraction. While the global theme park industry continuously seeks to innovate and inspire, there will always be both a need and a desire for family-friendly, story-telling attractions.
By offering a smooth, non-stop experience for theme park guests, the Omnimover stands today as one of the most important pieces of theme park tech and is sure to continue serving as a major player within the industry as we now look to the future.
