Guardians of the Galaxy, Disney

The hype online for Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind appears to be reaching boiling point. In the last couple of months we have gleaned further information about this much talked about and highly anticipated new rollercoaster coming to EPCOT this year.

We reported at the end of February the leaked potential opening date which came from a tweet from Disney executive, Geoff Morrell who after posting it quickly deleted it. The tweet gave Memorial Day Weekend (May 30) as the opening date but this has still not been confirmed by Disney.

We have also seen photos and a video of the loading station and the train leaving it. We know that Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will have a height restriction of 42 inches making it sit in between Big Thunder Mountain which has a height restriction of 40 inches and Expedition Everest at 44 inches in terms of intensity.

Last week DSNY Newcast released a detailed video on Youtube showing the ride layout for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind which is not only set to be the FIRST rollercoaster at EPCOT in its 40 years but the first MARVEL rollercoaster at Walt Disney World. This video is embedded below:

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind has been in construction for five years and will be a first of its kind omnicoaster which will include 360 degree rotation. It is a hybrid dark ride and rollercoaster and will be at approximately 1600 meters long which will make it one of the longest indoor rollercoasters in world.

It will be a family friendly attraction with a confirmed height requirement of 42 inches and although it doesn't include any inversions will be a trilling ride with speeds reaching that of Rock 'n' Rollercoaster. It will also include a reverse launch which is a first for a Disney rollercoaster.

The video uses blue prints taken for riveting work to give details about the potential ride layout and includes a rollercoaster simulation to show further insight into the guest experience albeit without the rotation.

The attraction is housed in the former Universal Energy building and guests will enjoy a visit to the Galaxarium for a presentation which introduces the story as well as two pre shows. Each train will consist of five starjumper vehicles each with four seats and as there are plans for nine to ten trains on the track at any one time, it should have a good hourly throughput of around 2000-2400 guests.

The ride looks truly immersive with screens and props and a whole host of exciting elements including lift hills, high banked turns, tunnels, descending helix and not forgetting the reverse launch. It is still unknown where the reverse launch will be with likely places specualted to be either at the beginning or end. The soundtrack will consist of at least five songs from the Guardians of the Galaxy films.
