Disney's Magic Kingdom is the most popular theme park in the world, with over 17 million people visiting in 2011. Located at Walt Disney World in Florida, it follows the typical "hub and spoke" design of other Disney parks. Guests enter on Main Street U.S.A., and can then access 5 themed lands: Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland.
Park History
After the success of Disneyland in California led to urban sprawl developing around the park, Walt Disney was determined to build a bigger resort and selected Florida as the best location. Though he envisioned futuristic city EPCOT as the centrepiece of the resort, for commercial reasons the Magic Kingdom was built first. It is based on the same basic design as Disneyland (though it covers a larger area), and finally opened almost 5 years after Walt's death. A major expansion to the park's Fantasyland area has resulted in the closure of Mickey's Toontown Fair, and was completed in 2014.
