2021 was supposed to be a huge celebration year for Walt Disney World with The Magic Kingdom turning 50! Things haven't quite worked out that way thanks to COVID-19.

We have seen a lot of cuts at Walt Disney World including the cancelling of fireworks and parades as well as Fastpass+ and Early Magic Hours. We are currently unsure of when or if these things will return although we can say with a large degree of confidence that when it is safe to do so fireworks and parades will return to Walt Disney World as most would agree that these are the experiences that make Disney, Disney.

One of the most controversial measures that has been put in place since Walt Disney World reopened after the three month closure due to COVID-19 is mandatory mask wearing at the parks.

Disney recently confirmed that ALL guests visiting Walt Disney World will still be required to wear face coverings, including those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine. This news may frustrate a lot of hopeful visitors to Walt Disney World this year. On a positive note, Disney has announced that face coverings with an integrated transparent plastic panel to aid in viewing the wearer’s mouth are now allowed.

It was also stated that in order to continue to help physical distancing in the parks, parties of more than 10 people will be split up in ride queues and when dining.

We all hope with the roll out of the vaccination program that COVID-19 numbers will fall as we head towards Spring, bringing the opportunity for some of the measures being relaxed come the Summer. Guests have lots to look forward to at Walt Disney World in 2021 with EPCOT "Taste of" International Flower and Garden Festival Kicking Off Next MonthModified Festival of the Lion King Coming Back This Summer to Disney's Animal Kingdom, the opening of Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, Harmonious at EPCOT, New "Soul" Jazz Exhibit Coming to EPCOT Next Month and Disney surely has exciting plans, albeit modified, to celebrate The Magic Kingdom's 50th year.

There are a lot of uncertainties around what will or won't be available at Walt Disney World for those guests choosing to visit in 2021 and with this thought in mind this week's Big Debate asks you the question, Is It Worth Visiting Walt Disney World In 2021?

It is very tempting to add the option 'Maybe if measures change' into this debate but I will as ever keep it simple. With what we know so far regarding the continuing COVID-19 pandemic and measures that are in place, Is It Worth Visiting Walt Disney World In 2021?

  • Yes
  • No

Disney does not enforce requirement for face coverings. Spent March 22 to 26 there. You can always see some group in the crowd not following Disney's "requirements" often right in front of cast members.
