7 Unexpected Gifts Walt Disney World Gave its Fans in 2015

5. A nightly fireworks show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been home to some awesome fireworks shows over the years, including the recent Frozen Fireworks that ran during Frozen Sumer Fun and 2015's Star Wars-themed fireworks that were shown during Star Wars Weekends. However, until now the park has never had its own, dedicated nightly fireworks display, instead directing most guests down Sunset Boulevard at the end of the evening for Fantasmic!. However, Disney surprised us several weeks ago by announcing that its new Star Wars-inspired Symphony in the Stars show would be performed nightly until further notice.

6. A (mostly) improved Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean is a Magic Kingdom classic that has entertained and inspired millions of guests over the years. However, that doesn’t mean that this attraction doesn’t need a little bit of sprucing up from time to time. Earlier this year Pirates of the Caribbean went down for almost the entire summer while it was undergoing a major refurbishment that saw everything from the animatronics to the lighting fixed up. The ride looks better than it has in years, and fans of this Magic Kingdom classic couldn't have been more elated with all of the technical and creative updates to this attraction. Well, with one exception...

One of the changes that was made to this ride during the refurbishment involves the gentle drop that occurs 1/3 of the way through the attraction. While this slide has always been fairly tame, during the refurbishment this section of the ride was slowed down considerably, which has resulted in a larger water splash at the base of the slide. Unfortunately, post-refurbishment it is not uncommon to board boats filled with water, and guests can expect to get soggy socks, no matter where they are sitting. Unfortunately, the tendancy of the boats to take on water has increased downtime for this attraction, which has made this gift one that some guests might want to regift. It's true that the ride looks amazing now, but the frequent downtime and soggy splashdowns have somewhat negated this improvement.

7. The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights gets a proper sendoff

We can all agree that the end of the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney's Hollywood Studios is quite sad, and certainly the opposite of a gift. However, Disney did the right thing in 2015 by making this year's event bigger and better than ever, giving this 20 year old tradition a truly memorable sendoff with special events, new musical segments and plenty of easter eggs for die-hard fans to discover. Though it's bittersweet, 2015 has been the best year ever for this event, and Disney truly pulled out all the stops giving fans the biggest and best display in the Osborne Lights' 20 year history for its final year.
