When MyMagic+ first came on the scene nearly two years ago, we all knew that this system would be used for way more than just Fastpass+ reservations. And in the months since MyMagic+ debuted, we’ve seen this system used to help guests make advance dining reservations, order specific food items from various quick service establishments, and even see bus arrival times around Walt Disney World.
However, the latest extension of MyMagic+ brings a completely new functionality to the system, one which has some surprisingly far-reaching implications. Not content with just changing how guests wait in line or dine at Walt Disney World, a new app has been created that will work in tandem with the existing My Disney Experience and change how guests find, purchase and even receive merchandise from Walt Disney World. Named Shop Disney Parks, this new app is set to be released in a few weeks and will have a number of features that sound pretty amazing for those of us who are crazy about Disney parks merchandise.
1. Search for items, check inventory and more in the parks
We’ve all been there. You want a specific set of Mickey ears, and you can’t remember whether you saw them in Frontierland or Liberty Square. So you end up running all over, hitting every shop you can until you find there's just one pair left at the last store on your route. And as you go to grab this special item, some one darts in front of you, picking it up and leaving you in a state of depression.
Fortunately, with this new app, situations like this are a thing of the past. With Shop Disney Parks, guests can search for specific items in each park, view all shops near your current location that carry said item, and even see estimated stock levels at different shops that carry the item you are wanting to purchase. This saves guests time, as they don't have to wander around the dozens of sovenir shops that fill each park, and also helps Disney gauge the popularity of different items at specific locations.
2. You can buy Walt Disney World souvenirs from home
How many times have you gone home after a trip to Walt Disney World and wished you had bought that one extra souvenir? Or saw some event-only Walt Disney World item online that you lamented not being able to purchase from anywhere other than eBay? With Shop Disney Parks, you won’t have to worry about this issue any more. As long as your home is within the US, the app will let you browse, buy and then ship the items directly from Walt Disney World to your front door.
Though not all items will be available for online selling (we’d guess breakable items and low-number limited edition items will be excluded), Disney has promised that the vast majority of merchandise at Walt Disney World is going to be available through the app. So, if for instance you really wanted the Frozen Fever iPhone 6 case that was sold exclusively at this past year’s Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival, you wouldn’t have to trudge through online auction sites or hire a personal shopper…just boot up the app, make your purchase and wait for your package to arrive, right from Walt Disney World.
