Despite denials that the character was on his way out of the park, Disney has removed Push the Talking Trash Can from Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom.

In the face of a determined social media campaign to save Push, the character is now listed as "permanently closed" on Walt Disney World's Cast Member portal (known as The Hub). This is a result of a dispute between Disney and the trash's can operator, and comes despite denials given by Disney to the Orlando Sentinel just two days earlier.

Push's Wikipedia page claims that the robot is operated by a plain-clothed operator via a remote control. Fans of Push, of course, will know that he is actually real. He has been rolling his away around Tomorrowland for most of the past two decades.

It's not yet known whether Disney might seek to revive Push (or a similar character) in future without the involvement on his previous operator.
