Europa Park is Germany is planning to open its own indoor water park by 2016, according to local news reports.
Michael Mack, a member of the Mack family that controls Europa Park and ride manufacturer Mack Rides, told Die Zeit that the all-weather water park could attract between 500,000 and 800,000 visitors per year, being "something that does not yet exist in Europe".
Europa Park is currently the third most popular theme park in Europe with 4.6 million visitors in 2012, close behind Walt Disney Studios, Paris which attracted 4.8 million guests. Disneyland Paris is way out in front with 11.2 million visitors.
The Disneyland Paris Resort announced plans to build the largest water park in Europe in 2010, in a partnership with Vacances Center Parcs. The Villages Nature resort will be located 6 kilometres south of Disneyland Paris, will span up to 500 hectares, and will feature 5,000 holiday homes. The first phase is currently scheduled to open in 2016.
