Universal Studios Florida has officially opened Transformers: The Ride - 3D, in a spectacular ceremony packed with explosions.
Celebrities on hand for the grand opening of the high-tech attraction included legendary director Steven Spielberg (who executive-produced the ride), Peter Cullen (the voice of Optimus Prime in the Transformers movies) and Frank Welker (the voice of arch-villain Megatron).
General Morshower was present to warn guests about an impending invasion by the evil Decepticons, with Autobots Optimus Prime and Bumblebee arriving to save the day. Fighter jets flew overhead as fireworks marked the official debut of the new ride.
Transformers: The Ride - 3D has been welcoming guests as part of a soft-opening period throughout June. The ride is a clone of the existing attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Singapore. It employs a very similar system to the Amazing Adventures of Spiderman attraction at neighboring Islands of Adventure.
The new addition has been constructed at a rapid pace since work started in summer 2012, with Universal hoping to maintain its recent attendance gains ahead of the opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida in 2014.
