Drayton Manor has confirmed that a new ride, Winston's Whistle Stop Tour, will open on July 19, 2013 to mark the fifth anniversary of the opening of its popular Thomas Land area.
Winston's Whistle Stop Tour will be a monorail-style attraction that will take guests on a circuit around Thomas Land, offering aerial views of the area's other attractions. It will be similar in style to rides such as Sky Rider at LEGOLAND Windsor, and has been installed at a cost of £750,000.
The new addition will be themed around Winston, the inspection vehicle seen in the Thomas & Friends series. Each of its seven vehicles will be capable of seating four people.
Drayton Manor's CEO, Colin Bryan, said of the new addition: "We are always looking at ways to give our visitors something new and with the celebrations of Thomas Land’s fifth anniversary, what better way to commemorate it than to bring a new character to join us! It is so exciting to be welcoming Winston to our growing family of rides and attractions at Thomas Land within Drayton Manor. The ride promises to entertain from the moment you take a seat – I'm sure Winston will be a big hit with everyone, young and old."
Thomas Land is the only themed area in the UK based on Thomas & Friends, and has proven to be an enduring favourite with families with young children. Winston's Whistle Stop Tour will be the first addition to the area since the opening of the Blue Mountain Engines in 2011.
