The Disneyland Resort Paris has finally broken its silence over the under-construction Ratatouille dark ride at Walt Disney Studios, confirming that it will open in 2014.
The resort began installing the ride in January 2012, after receiving a loan of €150 million from Disney to fund the work. However, it refused to confirm the nature of the attraction at the time, despite plans for the Ratatouille ride having leaked out as long ago as May 2011.
Now, Euro Disney Chairman Philippe Gas has finally confirmed the ride's theme, as well as its 2014 opening date. He said: "Our new family-focused Ratatouille attraction, which is scheduled to open in 2014, symbolises all of the creativity, innovation and emotion that guests associate with a Disneyland Paris experience."
Few details of the Ratatouille ride itself have been confirmed, although it is rumoured that it will use the same trackless ride system as Tokyo Disneyland's Pooh's Hunny Hunt attraction, which allows full 360 degree rotation of the ride cars. Guests are expected to enjoy a "rat's eye view" of variations locations, including Gusteau's restaurant as seen in the movie.
With Ratatouille having been set in Paris, Gas believes that it is the perfect fit for Walt Disney Studios: "By developing this new Ratatouille attraction, we continue to ensure our guests can experience their favourite Disney stories in memorable ways that only Disney can provide. The theme, which is very français, is a tribute to our capital and the unforgettable characters that make Ratatouille the ideal choice for an attraction that fits perfectly at Disneyland Paris."
