Alton Towers is pushing ahead with plans to overhaul its first on-site hotel, the aptly-named Alton Towers Hotel, and will debut 14 new "Moon Voyager"-themed rooms this spring. Meanwhile, legendary Disney Imagineer Tony Baxter is to step down after several incredible decades with the company, and Universal Orlando's rumoured plans to add a Lord of the Rings land may be under threat.

The Alton Towers Hotel is to debut 14 "Moon Voyager" themed rooms in time for the 2013 season, as the resort invests millions in refurbishing the property. They are expected to open in March, with posters advertising their availability already appearing in the hotel.

Disney California Adventure

The Disneyland Resort has confirmed that this year's Happy Lunar New Year Celebration will be held at Disney California Adventure, with the event running from February 8-13, 2013.

Legendary Disney Imagineer Tony Baxter has announced that he is to step down from his role as Senior Vice President of Creative Development at Walt Disney Imagineering. However, he will stay on as a mentor and consultant for the firm's younger employees. The Orange County Register takes a look back at Baxter's impressive career.

Islands of Adventure

Following rumours that Universal is attempting to acquire the rights to build theme park attractions based on the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy at Islands of Adventure, Screamscape's Lance Hart suggests that a dispute over who owns the rights to the intellectual property could be a major obstacle.
