Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid

Walt Disney World has released the first images of the interior of the new Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid dark ride at the Magic Kingdom.

Located in the park's expanded New Fantasyland, the attraction will officially open to the public on December 6, 2012. Housed inside a recreation of Prince Eric's castle as seen in The Little Mermaid, it will offer a near-identical ride experience to The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure.

The images show several of the animatronic characters that will feature in the new ride, including a scene featuring lead character Ariel:

Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid will feature an Omnimover ride system similar to that employed by the Magic Kingdom's existing Haunted Mansion ride. As in the California version, the attraction will feature a number of popular songs from The Little Mermaid, brought to life by animatronic figures of Ariel and her friends. A range of special effects will be employed to make riders feel as they are submerged "under the sea".
