Flamingo Land set to gain planning approval for Zamperla Vertical Swing

Zamperla Vertical Swing

Flamingo Land is set to receive planning permission for its new ride for the 2012 season, a Zamperla Vertical Swing.

The York Press reports that that Ryedale District Council's planning committee is expected to approve the plans for the ride, which will stand at 150-feet-tall. Pickering Town Council had objected to the size of the structure, which is not as tall as Flamingo Land's existing Cliff Hanger drop tower ride.

The new addition to the park will be similar to the WindSeeker and SkyScreamer rides that have been installed at Cedar Fair and Six Flags parks in the US during recent years. It will offer a vertigo-inducing variation on the classic "Chair-O-Plane" or "Waveswinger" attraction, and will see guests hanging from a central gondola in seats suspended by chains.

No opening date has been confirmed for Flamingo Land's new ride, which will sit alongside the existing Wagon Wheels attraction. However, the park is believed to be aiming for a July debut for the attraction.
