Dollywood has debuted its new ride for the 2012 season, Wild Eagle, which has become the first ride of its type to open in the US.
Wild Eagle is a Bolliger & Mabillard Wing Rider coaster, and opened alongside the rest of Dollywood on March 24. It sees guests seated on "wings" on either side of the ride's trains, with the overall experience designed to recreate the sensation of soaring through the skies like a bald eagle.
To coincide with the ride's opening day, Dollywood has released a point-of-view video showing a riders'-eye view of Wild Eagle's circuit:
The new roller coaster was constructed at a cost of $20 million, with a significant portion of this budget having been spent on putting together the surrounding Wilderness Pass area. Wild Eagle features a 3,127-feet-long course, which includes a giant loop, a "zero-G" roll and a giant flat spin. The ride hits its top speed of 61 miles per hour at the foot of its 135-feet-tall first drop.
