The updated Goofy's Sky School rollercoaster at Disney California Adventure has been caught on video during a soft opening period, ahead of its official July 1, 2011 reopening date.
The wild mouse coaster, formerly known as Mulholland Madness, returned to action over the weekend. The video, captured by MintCrocodile and embedded below, shows off the ride's new theme, which is based on the 1940 cartoon Goofy's Glider.
Goofy's Sky School is a classic wild mouse coaster, featuring sharp turns and sudden drops and reaching a top speed of 27 miles per hour. The new theme has seen the vehicles updated to feature aeroplane-style decorations, while clouds and other theming elements have been installed alongside the track. The backstory of the ride is based on Goofy's attempts to teach pilots how to fly.
Mulholland Madness had been in place since Disney California Adventure opened in 2001, and was named after the famous engineer William Mulholland. The ride's theme saw guests renting a car and tackling South California's freeway system, with the vehicles being designed to resemble real cars.
July 1 will mark the completion of a major overhaul of the Paradise Pier area at Disney California Adventure. In addition to Goofy's Sky School, two new restaurants known as Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta and the Paradise Garden Grill will open to the public. These are to set to fit in with the new theme for the area, which is designed to evoke a 1920s-era seaside resort.
