Videos have emerged for the first time showing off the attractions at the indoor Ferrari World Abu Dhabi theme park, which will open on October 27.
The videos include official footage of Formula Rossa, which will become the fastest rollercoaster in the world when it begins operations. Also shown are the interior of the giant building which houses Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, along with scenes from some of its major dark rides.
The Formula Rossa video shows the same launch section that was captured in an unofficial video earlier this month. The launch propels riders to speeds of up to 149 miles per hour, with the coaster reaching a maximum height of 170 feet. The ride will attempt to evoke the experience of driving in a Formula One Grand Prix, with its four trains each featuring cars designed to resemble Ferrari's F1 vehicles.
Although the track for Formula Rossa extends outside, the majority of Ferrari World will be hosted inside a huge building which spans 200,000 square meters. The interior of the building can be seen in the next video, along with brief glimpses of some of the attractions within:
The final video appears to show the interior of the Racing Legends dark ride, which takes guests on a tour through Ferrari's greatest racing achievements.
Ferrari World Abu Dhabi will open its doors to the public for the first time at 7pm on October 27. Following opening day festivities that will include shows, entertainment and free souvenirs, the park will settle into a standard operating schedule. This will see it opening six days a week (from Tuesday to Sunday), opening at noon each day. The grand opening of Ferrari World will not actually take place until December, with late October and November being viewed as an "inaugural period" in which technical and operational problems will be ironed out.
The Formula One-themed park will feature 20 attractions when it opens, including a simulated aerial voyage through Italy, a 203-feet launch tower, an interactive 4D show, "authentic" racing simulators, a driving school and a themed water ride through the inside of a Ferrari 599 engine. Theme Park Tourist's recent news story features full details of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi's attraction line-up.
Ferrari World's first day of operations will come three weeks prior to the last F1 Grand Prix of the 2010 season, which will take place at the Yas Marina circuit where the park is located. The park's operators, Farah Leisure Parks Management, hope that it will appeal to families and motorsport enthusiasts alike.
Ferrari World was expected to be the first of many new theme parks to open in the United Arab Emirates, with the majority planned for neighboring Dubai. However, the debt crisis which has engulged the smaller emirate has caused many of the proposed parks to be put on hold. The highest-profile park, Universal Studios Dubailand, is now scheduled to open no earlier than 2012.
