Six Flags Over Georgia's Dare Devil Dive will become the first Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter rollercoaster to feature lapbar restraints, according to the ride's supplier.
The Ride Entertainment Group of Companies, which has supplied Euro-Fighters to other parks in the past, claims on its Facebook page that "Dare Devil Diving is a lot more fun with a lapbar". This strongly suggests that the new ride, due to open in spring 2011, will dispose of the over-the-shoulder restraints seen on other coasters of its type.
Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter rollercoasters have proven hugely popular since their introduction in 2003, but some coaster fans have complained that they offer a "rough" ride experience. The use of lapbars could help reduce the "head-banging" effect that is common with over-the-shoulder restraints.
Due to open in time for the 2011 Memorial Day weekend (May 28-30), Dare Devil Dive will be targeted squarely at thrill-seekers. Although it features a relatively low top speed of 52 miles per hour, the inclusion of a vertical lift hill, a "beyond-vertical" drop and a number of other inversions are designed to help the ride live up to its name.
