The long-awaited Toy Story Playland area at Walt Disney Studios, Paris officially opened to the public on Tuesday, August 17.
The €70 million addition to the Disneyland Paris resort features three new rides, each based on a character from Pixar's hugely popular Toy Story animated movies. Toy Story Playland is the first major addition to the resort since the 2007 opening of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, also at Walt Disney Studios.
The new area has opened in time to benefit from the continuing buzz around Toy Story 3, which was recently confirmed as the highest-grossing animated movie of all time. Disney's Imagineers have designed Toy Story Playland to give guests the impression of being "shrunk" down to toy size, with giant-scale toys and other objects designed to add to the effect.

The attractions in Toy Story Playland are all customized versions of off-the-shelf attractions seen at other theme parks around the world. Manufactured by Intamin, they include:
- Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop - inspired by the miniature Green Army Men figures seen in all three Toy Story movies, with guests being hoisted up a 25-metre-tall tower before "parachuting" towards the ground.
- RC Racer - a half-pipe rollercoaster, designed to resemble the Hot Wheels track that remote-controlled car RC Racer traverses in the Toy Story movies. Riders soar backwards and forwards several times on the half-pipe track.
- Slinky Dog Zigzag Spin - a waltzer-style flat ride which sees guests attached to the "springs" of Slinky Dog as he chases his tail around a food bowl.
Toy Story Playland is an extension to the existing Toon Studio area of Walt Disney Studios, which features attractions inspired by other Pixar movies. To tie-in with the area's opening, Disneyland Paris has been promoting the "New Generation Festival" throughout 2010 - aiming to celebrate newer Disney characters seen in recent hits.
Walt Disney Imagineering show producer Chrissie Allen is quoted by Examiner.com as saying of Toy Story Playland: "The landscape naturally enforces the sense of being immersed in this play world. The new land is planted with beautiful stands of 9-meter-tall bamboo which encloses the land and seals us into our new toy world."
Theme Park Tourist will be visiting Disneyland Paris later this year and will feature a review of Toy Story Playland on the site shortly afterwards.
