Disney has officially confirmed that the highly-anticipated World of Color show will premiere at Disney's California Adventure on June 11, 2010.
Disney confirmed the long-rumored opening date on its official blog on Tuesday. The show will feature powerful fountains, lighting arrays and fire effects, all synchronized with music from classic Disney movies.
In addition, animated sequences from movies including The Little Mermaid, Toy Story, Aladdin, Fantasia, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast will be projected onto an enormous "wall" of water created by fountains embedded in the park's lake. Examples of this effect can be seen in Disney's latest World of Color video, which is embedded below:
World of Color is inspired by Walt Disney's 1960s television show, Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color. Its water effects were produced by WET Design, famous as the company behind the spectacular Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas. Nearly 1,200 fountains will feature in the show, alongside lasers, fog and pyrotechnic effects.
The launch of World of Color will give Disney's California Adventure the evening showpiece that some have complained the park has been missing since its 2001 opening. Its completion marks a milestone in the redevelopment of the park, and completes a major part of the revamp of the Paradise Pier area.
Disney is investing $1.1 billion into upgrading Disney's California Adventure, which will see a number of attraction upgrades and additions over the next 2 years. This will include a whole new land - Cars Land - plus new "E-Ticket" attractions Radiator Springs Racers and The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure.
