Disney has announced that its Summer Nightastic! event will begin on June 11 at the Disneyland Resort, with the World of Color show set to open at Disney's California Adventure on the same day.
Though the show's opening date could still change, Disney's press release describes World of Color as the "headline" element of Summer Nightastic!, and previous reports have suggested that Cast Members have been informed of the planned June 11 opening date. The show will become a permanent fixture after the summer event comes to a close on August 29.
(Update: Disney has refused to confirm the opening date for World of Color, though it is believed that June 11 is still the "target" date for the show's debut)
Other key elements of Summer Nightastic include the Fantasmic show (returning after a closure of several months) and the "Magical" fireworks display, both in Disneyland park. Fantasmic has been closed while the park's Rivers of America was drained to allow attraction refurbishments to take place, while "Magical" was first seen during last year's summer celebrations.
World of Color will combine traditional Disney animation with high-tech water, fire and lighting effects, giving Disney's California Adventure an evening showpiece that some have complained has been missing since the park's 2001 opening. It will be located in the Paradise Pier area of the park, which has been undergoing an extensive renovation to add Disney elements to the previously generic seaside theme.
Disney is investing $1.1 billion into upgrading Disney's California Adventure, which will see a number of attraction upgrades and additions over the next 2 years. This will include a whole new land - Cars Land - plus new "E-Ticket" attractions Radiator Springs Racers and The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure.
