Silly Symphony Swings is a rethemed version of the former Orange Stinger attraction, which is a traditional "waveswinger" ride. The opening date for the updated attraction is now listed as May 29, and Disney has released a new video (embedded below) showing a 4-foot-tall model of Mickey Mouse being placed atop the attraction.
In place of the previous Orange County-friendly theme of Orange Stinger, Disney has added a new storyline for Silly Symphony Swings which is based on the classic 1935 animated short "The Band Concert". The short sees Mickey Mouse attempting to conduct a production of the "William Tell Overture" by Gioachino Rossini, before Donald Duck interrupts him and causes chaos. The plot of Mickey's Philharmagic at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom is based on the same short.
The plot will add a new dimension to the attraction, with guests seeing Mickey conducting the "barnyard orchestra" before a tornado causes the ride to spin. A new audio soundtrack will also add to the experience.
Meanwhile, Mouse Planet has reported a rumor that the World of Color show will now open on June 1. The show will combine traditional Disney animation with high-tech water, fire and lighting effects, giving Disney's California Adventure an evening showpiece that some have complained has been missing since the park's 2001 opening.
Disney is investing $1.1 billion into upgrading Disney's California Adventure, which will see a number of attraction upgrades and additions over the next 2 years. This will include a whole new land - Cars Land - plus new "E-Ticket" attractions Radiator Springs Racers and The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure.
Disney's video of the installation of Mickey on Silly Symphony Swings is embedded below, along with the original "The Band Concert" short. Footage of World of Color undergoing testing can be found here.
