Big Hero 6

Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been ground zero for a number of huge changes in the past few weeks and it looks like even more changes are in store for the park in the coming weeks.

From the announcement of yet another Frozen-themed event to the opening of a new retail location and even a controversial FastPass+ test, there’s plenty of things happening at this park.

1. Wandering Oaken's Frozen Snowground retail store opens

Frozen snowground

Though much attention has been on the opening of the Haunted Mansion retail location Momento Mori at the Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios has also opened up a new retail location. Wandering Oaken’s Frozen Snowground can currently  be accessed from the Streets of America and as you might expect, it includes all manner of Frozen merchandise. Like the name implies, there is also a snow play area, similar to what inhabited Soundstage One during the Frozen Summer Fun event.

2. Frozen Premium Package keeps the “Frozen Fun” going

Frozen Fun

Continuing with the theme of a Frozen takeover at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a new winter event has been announced for the park. The Frozen Premium Package is a special desert party debuting this November at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and will include a special dessert party, guaranteed seating at the Frozen Sing-a-long show at the Premiere Theater as well as a special souvenir pin.  3. Hollywood Backlot Tour Out, Pixar Playland in?

Backlot Tour

Ever since the Hollywood Backlot Tour closed for good last month, rumors have been swirling about what might replace it. Though many (including this writer) were hoping that Disney might use this expansive place to put in another ride (something Disney’s Hollywood Studios sorely needs), rumors about a Pixar-themed play area have been quite persistent, and have been reported on by some generally reliable sources.  While nothing has been confirmed by Disney, this development wouldn’t be surprising, and would (hopefully) have a faster construction time than a full-fledged ride attraction, and would be a good "placeholder" attraction while the big task of bringing Star Wars to Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2017/2018.

unless they change the fast pass system online I do not t hink I'll like not having a stand by line. They do not have much of a choice of times and days for the rides and plus the fact U can only get 3 fast passes at a time, the next one U get after U use one. Most people like to ride a ride time after time or go from one to another without having to see what time they have to be there, one or two fast passes are ok but stand by lines are good for the times between them

Very disappointed that there is a rumor that they will replace the Backlot ride with a Pixar play area. I can only hope that this will be temporary until they put in a much better and much needed attraction(s)/ride(s). MGM already has the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playland, or whatever it is themed now. We don't need more glorified playgrounds at these parks! The space that the Backlot ride had is huge! Do something big! I expect much much more out of Disney and their Imagineers. They have completely let me down with the New Fantasyland, they better not screw MGM up as well.

In regards to the FastPass only rides. Stupid! I have never been a fan of how the FastPass lines are run with the Standby lines. Most times if you choose to go into a standby line you feel as if you are being punished for not having a FastPass as they unnecessarily hold the line up for possibly potential FastPass riders. I personally never minded waiting in line back before the FastPass, that was part of the enjoyment, being able to take your time and look at everything and enjoy being in Disney World. They are slowly taking that away.

Run Disney also suspended (cancelled) the Tower of Terror 10 miler for 2015 that would happen in October. It just happened this past weekend. This may have to do with the construction going on, but, they are still doing the Wine and Dine half in 2014 and 2015 which goes through Hollywood Studios.
