The new Mystic Manor dark ride at Hong Kong Disneyland has begun previewing to Cast Members and select guests, ahead of its official debut on May 17, 2013.
The ride, which offers a modern twist on the classic Haunted Mansion concept, anchors the Mystic Point expansion. The area will open for further preview periods in the period leading up to its grand opening, which will take place on May 17. Its debut will mark the completion of an ambitious expansion programme that has seen three new lands added to Hong Kong Disneyland's line-up.
While Mystic Manor is similar in style to the Haunted Mansion rides at other Disney parks, it utilises a version of the "trackless" ride system pioneered by Pooh's Hunny Hunt at Tokyo Disneyland. The "Mystic Magneto-Electric Carriages" provide every rider with a front-row experience, with the cars being controlled by a wireless local positioning system.
Several ride-through videos (containing significant spoilers) have appeared online following the soft opening. The first, embedded below, includes footage of Mystic Manor's pre-show, while the second offers a full ride-through:
Mystic Manor's plot revolves around Lord Henry Mystic, the owner of Mystic Point. He has collected a variety of antiquities in Mystic Manor, with a newly-acquired music box playing a central role.
