The under-contruction Fantawild theme park in Xiamen, China has reportedly entered its final testing stage, and is due to open its gates for the first time on May 1, 2013.
The park has been constructed at an estimated cost of RMB2.5 billion ($400 million), and will cover a total area of 400,000 square metres. Part of the broader Huaqiang Science and Technology Industrial Park, it will feature areas themed around technology, science-fiction, myths and legends and Chinese history.
Ticket prices for Fantawild have been set at RMB200 ($32). The park's backers hope to pull in 6 million visitors every year, providing a boost to tourism in the region.
Xiamen has become more accessible to tourists in recent years, thanks to the completion of the Fuzhou-Xiamen bullet train line in 2010. A total of 40 million passengers travelled to the city in 2012.
