The Disneyland Resort has released its first application for Apple's iPad tablet, enabling guests to explore Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.
The free "Disneyland Explorer" application features recreations of both theme parks, as well as the Downtown Disney area and the resort's two hotels. Available from the Apple App Store, it packs a number of interactive elements into a hefty 429 megabyte download.
The official preview video below shows off the app's capabilities:
Users of the Disneyland Explorer app use finger "swipes" to navigate around the theme parks and adjacent areas, and can play a variety of mini-games. This includes creating a version of the World of Color water show, taking photos of the Yeti on the Matterhorn Bobsleds coaster and participating in a sea battle in Pirates of the Caribbean.
The app is not designed to be used in the theme parks, and instead acts as a combination of an interactive advertisement and a planning tool. Disney currently has an exclusive arrangement with Verizon Wireless to deliver applications for in-park use to its customers.
