Further details have been revealed of the 40th anniversary celebrations at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, with a special parade set to be a major element.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that the parade will commence at 9.45am on October 1, 2011, along a route from the Main Street Train Station to Cinderella Castle. Disney characters will gather at the castle at the end of the parade for a special ceremony, for which they will be joined by Cast Members with 40 years of Walt Disney World experience.
Limited edition merchandise will be on-sale throughout the park, including a special commemorative T-shirt. Famous Disney artists will sign autographs and meet with fans at the Diamond Horseshoe in Frontierland and Uptown Jewelers on Main Street USA, while the nightly "Wishes" fireworks display will also be augmented with additional pyrotechnics to mark the occasion.
The Magic Kingdom first opened on October 1, 1971, becoming Disney's second theme park after Disneyland in California. It has since grown to become the most popular theme park in the world, receiving almost 17 million visitors in 2010.
