Disney's California Adventure has begun a "soft opening" period for the updated Silly Symphony Swings attraction, ahead of its official opening on June 11, 2010.

Silly Symphony Swings is a rethemed version of the former Orange Stringer attraction, which is a traditional "waveswinger" ride. Although it is officially due to reopen on the same day that Disney's multi-million dollar World of Color show makes its debut, the ride has been operating this weekend as Disney seeks to work out any operational kinks. A video of it in action can be seen below, courtesy of YouTube user MintCrocodile.

In place of the previous Orange County-friendly theme of Orange Stinger, Disney has added a new storyline for Silly Symphony Swings which is based on the classic 1935 animated short "The Band Concert". The short sees Mickey Mouse attempting to conduct a production of the "William Tell Overture" by Gioachino Rossini, before Donald Duck interrupts him and causes chaos. The plot of Mickey's Philharmagic at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom is based on the same short.

The plot adds a new dimension to the attraction, with guests seeing Mickey conducting the "barnyard orchestra" before a tornado causes the ride to spin. A new audio soundtrack also adds to the experience.

Disney is investing $1.1 billion into upgrading Disney's California Adventure, which will see a number of attraction upgrades and additions over the next 2 years. This will include a whole new land - Cars Land - plus new "E-Ticket" attractions Radiator Springs Racers and The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure.
