I feel EPCOT is the park where one can go to escape the feel of the Magic Kingdom and a place where humanity is celebrated. The shoehorned in IP's make the park less timeless and more generic or even more like Universal Studios
I think it's a bit unfair to call it shoehorned in. I think ratatouille in France makes perfect sense. I really hope Impressions de France stays though. Now GotG makes less sense. What would actually be cool is if they made it an edutainment ride like they are looking for a new energy source or something like that.
I don't know they keep going back and forth with their decisions to me. I think one thing that is really promising and shows they are still wanting a balance with keeping with the original idea of the park is that they are investing a lot of time and energy into updating the circle vision movie in China. Without IP too I might add. I don't see Universal investing millions of dollars to update a purely educational attraction. I think Disney deserves some major props for that.
I love it. There was a time when EPCOT would seem forward and advanced. But the speed of change quickly makes any type of future (same for tomorrowland) world irrelevant before it even would open. Travel to other countries is a reality for so many that the world showcase is nice but as can be seen the festivals are more popular than the attractions. Using IP allows people to have a prior investment and desire to come to EPCOT. I would rather ride ratatouille than visit a corner of "Paris". Epcot is boring for those who are not dieneyphiles. I wood actually go to EPCOT with these additions. I know many traditionalists will be upset. Up with diagon alley and sea world upping their game Disney has really needed a reset with EPCOT. Btw Seaworls really is amazing. Great rides and shows. Take time and go. You'll be impressed.
