The fourth theme park to open at Walt Disney World in Florida, Disney's Animal Kingdom is unique among the chain's parks in that it incorporates live animal exhibits alongside the usual rides and shows. That said, the Expedition Everest roller coaster is among the headliners and one of the best Disney attractions., The introduction of a new land based on James Cameron's Avatar adds a fantasy element.

Park History

Disney's Animal Kingdom is the most recent theme park to open at Walt Disney World, having made its debut in April 1998. It suffered severe criticism when it first opened, both from animal rights groups concerned about animals being kept in captivity, and from visitors who complained about the lack of major attractions. Disney has sought to address both of these areas, supporting conservation efforts to stave off negative press and installing the hugely popular Expedition Everest rollercoaster in 2006.  The animals which are mainly in large natural enclosures are now a major attraction to the park.
