Located in Vallejo, California, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom combines elements of a zoo, a marine-life park and a theme park. It features the Six Flags chain's standard array of roller coasters and thrill rides, including the launch coasters Superman: Ultimate Flight and V2: Vertical Velocity. It also houses a number of kids' rides, primarily in the Looney Tunes Seaport and Seaside Junction areas. Along with these, it boasts exhibits and shows dedicated to animals including crocodiles, sharks, dolphins, lions and cheetahs.
Park History
The park opened to the public in 1968 in Redwood City, when it was known as Marine World. In the mid-1970s, the struggling park merged with the nearby Africa, USA animal park to become Marine World Africa USA. With property taxes becoming excessive, the entire park was moved to Vallejo in 1986. Ten years later, it went bust, with Premier Parks being invited to operate it by the City of Vallejo. When Premier Parks acquired Six Flags in 1999, it rebranded the park as Six Flags Marine World, adding a number of Looney Tunes-themed kids' rides. The most recent relaunch came in 2007, when the park adopted its current name of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.
