The Disneyland Resort Paris is located in Marne la Vallée, in the suburbs of Paris itself, and is easily reachable from France's capital by train or car. The resort is home to two major theme parks (Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney Studios), a range of hotels and the Disney Village shopping and entertainment district.
Park History
After years of negotiations, Disney signed an agreement with the French government to build its first theme park resort in Europe in December 1985. The resort finally opened as Euro Disney in 1992, but struggled financially almost from the outset. After a painful debt restructuring, its performance finally began to improve in 1995 following the debut of the Space Mountain roller coaster. A second theme park, Walt Disney Studios, opened in 2002, but the resort is still struggling with the massive debt load built up during its early years.
