Review

To be honest, there isn't a whole lot to be said for the Southern Star ride at Carowinds. As soon as you see it, you know what you're in for.

Formerly known as the "Frenzoid", the Southern Star is your basic looping pirate ship which goes back and forth, higher and higher, until the guests are hanging upside down wondering if the ship will complete its 360 loop.....before it does once or twice.

Half the ship is facing one direction and the other half facing the first half so guests are looking at each other during the ride. Just be careful of the immature ones who use the opportunity (when they're at the high point) to spit as they'll have a clear shot at you.

The ride itself doesn't last very long, and unless you like to hang upside down for a few seconds while the lap bar continues to push you in place, you won't find this ride all that thrilling or particularly fun. That may also be tipped off to you early by the lack of much of a line of people waiting to ride it.

For males, be careful of the lapbar: it's not a friend to certain body parts....not when it's first brought down and certainly not when you're hanging upside down.
