I loved visiting River Country (and Discovery Island) with my children when they were small. I have very fond memories of visits to both parks with them. River Country was a grest option for a water park if your children were small - much more laid back, a great place to unwind.

Every easter Sunday from the date it opened my entire family would lug coolers and we would stay from open to close.....awesome it is sorely missed

We made it here twice before it shut down in 1995 and 1996. It's too bad since this park had some unique rides not found elsewhere. And to clarify, the Whitewater Rapids was not a lazy river. It was a downhill slide ridden in inner tubes that had receiving "pools" along the way to catch riders in their backwash. It ended with a slide into the lagoon.

MY FAMILY LOVED TO GO TO RIVER COUNTRY. WE WENT THERE EVERY TIME WE WERE AT DISNEY. WE LOVED STAYING AT THE CONTEMPORY HOTEL AND BEING ABLE TO TAKE THE BOAT ACROSS THE LAKE TO OUR VACATION FROM A VACATION. IT WAS A GREAT PLACE TO RELAX AND ENJOY THE DAY. WE ALL MISS IT.

I have very fond memories of river country. It was a nice family oriented water park. We went a few times when I was a kid. We loved it.

Going to River Country as a young child and then taking my children is a memory I will always cherish. The question that my husband and I always have asked is why with all the money Disney has spent on theme pools around the resort why have they not taken down the wood framed mountain and walled off the beach area from bay lake using their own filter system and used that as a theme pool for wilderness lodge and the campground. Moving the water tower to the main pool at the campground would pull that pool and river country into the same theme.

I hated it...went there..the ground was too rocky and not protected from the heat...threw my back out on the water slide

Fear not. It's coming back. The Brian eating bacteria has been cleaned and verified and the concrete has all cracked so will be all rebuilt BUT it will be a DVC resort with a 500 room building. Will be great and dvc dues will pay for upkeep.

Has there been any clarification as to why they leave it and Discovery Island abandoned and wasting away instead of rehabilitating it into something useful (and dare we say it)... profitable? I've never understood that.
