Attached to one of the world's leading movie studios, Universal Studios Hollywood features a host of attractions dedicated to the art of movie-making. The park is split into 2 sections, the Upper and Lower Lots, which are joined by a series of escalators. The lower level hosts major attractions including Jurassic Park: The Ride, Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride and Transformers: The Ride - 3D, while the Upper Lot is home to the world-famous Studio Tour. As well as packing in numerous staged set-pieces, the 45-minute tour also takes guests through the studio's working backlot - including sets from blockbuster movies such as War of the Worlds.
History: Universal Studios first began offering tram tours of its backlot in 1964, building on walkthrough tours that first started in the 1920s. Gradually, the studio added additional attractions alongside the tour, culminating in the opening of the Lower Lot in 1991. The tour, though, remains the centerpiece of the park. Areas of the backlot were badly hit by a fire in 2008, but all of the affected areas reopened by summer 2010.
