Part of the Cedar Fair chain, Kings Dominion is home to a large number of thrill rides and roller coasters that will feel familiar to fans of its sister parks. Major coasters such as Intimidator 305 and Dominator are the big draws, although the park also offers a number of "kiddie" rides in its Planet Snoopy area. Entrance to its water park, Soak City, is included with theme park admission.
Park History
The 400-acre Kings Dominion site was acquired by the Taft Broadcasting Company and Top Value Enterprises in 1973, with the aim of expanding on the success of the existing Kings Island park in Ohio. It opened to the public in 1975, featuring a host of rides that are still in operation today (including Ghoster Coaster and Rebel Yell) in its line-up. After a takeover in 1993 by Paramount Parks, the park was renamed as Paramount's Kings Dominion, and a raft of movie-themed rides were installed over the proceeding decade. Many of these returned to vanilla themes after Cedar Fair acquired the Paramount chain in 2006.
