Test Track, EPCOT

It was back at the D23 Expo in September 2023 where it was first announced that the iconic Test Track at EPCOT which officially opened in March 1999 would be reimagined.

Yesterday, Disney announced the official date when TEST TRACK will close temporarily to begin this reimagining. It has now appeared on the official TEST TRACK page on the Walt Disney World website that this iconic attraction will "On June 17, 2024, Test Track Presented by Chevrolet will temporarily close. Please check back for additional information."

Test Track has looked somewhat tired and needing attention for a few years now and saw significant downtime back in February 2022. We now know that Disney is planning a reimagining and they will look to the original World of Motion for inspiration.

This reimaging is being dubbed Test Track 3.0 as it will be the third version since the original officially opened in March 1999. The first version had a factory theme leading onto the second version which opened in late 2012 and took on a futuristic design with the ability to custom design your vehicle in the pre-ride experience.

We still await news of exactly how Test Track will be changed and as of yet we don't have any confirmed details other than it will be reimagined. With the World of Motion attraction being used as inspiration we definitely expect a change in theme and revamp of the ride vehicles and for further information, take a look at our featured article, Test Track 3.0 is Coming To EPCOT! Here's Everything We Know So Far.

The World of Motion attraction was housed in the building that is now occupied by Test Track, it was one of EPCOT's original opening day attractions opening in 1982. The World of Motion was sponsored by General Motors and took guests on a time travel journey through the history of transportation. This included the lows and highs in designing new vehicles, the age of flight, and the development of the horseless carriage, as well as the the bicycle, Sunday drive with the family and the classic summer road trip. It closed at the beginning of 1996.
