Chessington World of Adventures to reopen to day visitors after ChristmasSubmitted by Nick Sim on Monday, December 23, 2013 13:18
Chessington World of Adventures will remain closed until after Christmas 2013, following a major fire in the Creaky Cafe.
The park had been opened for its traditional "Zoo Days" over the Christmas period, but the fire on Saturday, December 21 has put a temporary end to these. Chessington will reopen to guests on December 26 for day visitors, but will admit guests with pre-booked hotel packages in the meantime. It will be closed completely on Christmas Day.
There were no injuries in the fire, which occurred in the cafe close to the zoo and the temporary Santa's Grotto attraction. The zoo's animal residents were moved to safety.
The park was forced to close completely on Saturday, but has now been able to reopen to guests with pre-booked tickets. "The area surrounding Creaky Cafe will remain closed until the investigation is complete," it said in a statement. "We would like to sincerely apologise for the disappointment this has caused."
Most of Chessington World of Adventures is close during the winter, with the theme park rides due to reopen to the public in March 2014.
