Thorpe Park trials "Reserve 'n' Ride" virtual queue system on The SwarmSubmitted by Nick Sim on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 08:18
Thorpe Park is experimenting with a new system that will allow riders to book slots in advance during which they can ride major attractions without waiting in a queue.
Dubbed Reserve 'n' Ride, the system is similar to Fastpass+, which is currently being rolled at Walt Disney World. It is being trialled on winged roller coaster The Swarm, and enables guests to book their ride time via their smartphone. The trial will run on August 19, 20, 22, 23, 24 and 25, 2013.
On its official website, Thorpe Park claims that Reserve 'n' Ride will make it "the first theme park in the world to offer a No Queue Guarantee in the future". However, given that the park already sells lucrative Fastrack queue-jumping passes, it is likely that - should it be adopted fully - Reserve 'n' Ride will carry a significant upcharge.
Visitors to the park will be able to visit www.reservenride.com on their smartphone to reserve their group's ride time for The Swarm. The website includes a payment mechanism, although during the trial the price for reserving a ride slot appears to have been set to zero.
If adopted by Thorpe Park, Reserve 'n' Ride is likely to also be rolled out at sister parks Alton Towers and Chessington World of Adventures in the future.
