Video: Disney releases further details of Cars Land at California Adventure

Disney has released a video rendering of Radiator Springs Racers attraction, due to open at Disney's California Adventure in 2012.

The ride will be located in Cars Land, a 12-acre addition to the park based on Pixar's 2006 film. The video was unveiled by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, alongside several other major announcements.

Cars Land will be themed around Radiator Springs, the fictional home of the cars in the movie. Radiator Springs Racers will be the headline attraction of the new zone, costing some $200 million and featuring rock work on the same scale as Expedition Everest at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

The ride will cover half of the Cars Land area, and is based on the same technology as the Test Track attraction at Epcot in Orlando. It takes guests a road trip through scenery from the movie, riding in animatronic cars with animated eyes and mouths. The popular Mater character will take guests on a cheeky "cow-tipping" trip, as seen in the film, and the ride will end with two cars facing off side-by-side in a race.

Disney is investing some $1.1 billion into upgrading Disney's California Adventure. This will see a number of ride upgrades and additions over the next 2 years, in addition to the retheming of three existing areas of the park.

It's been a big news week for Disney, with an upgrade to the Star Tours attraction and a major expansion of Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom also being announced at the expo.
