Key Information
Manufactured by Swiss specialists Bolliger & Mabillard, Great Bear is an inverted roller coaster that opened at Hersheypak in 1998. The ride's name derives from the loud "growling" sound it creates, due to a requirement to use unusual supports to gain planning clearance for its construction.
Riders hit a top speed of 61 miles per hour at the base of Great Bear's 124-foot firsr drop, before racing through a series of inversions. This includes a vertical loop, an Immelmann loop, a zero-g roll and a corkscrew.
