Walt Disney World Water Parks to Remain Closed Until at Least March 2021

Though all four of Walt Disney World’s theme parks reopened this past July, water parks Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon have remained shuttered for the time being, with no reopening in sight. And now it looks like Walt Disney World has released an update for the reopening of the water parks via its annual passholder website, saying that they will be closed until at least March, with the plan currently being to reopen at least one water park on March 7, 2021. Of course, that is a long way in the future and Disney may adjust their proposed reopening date, and if that happens, Disney has said that they will let Guests know what to expect in a future update.

In the meantime however, Disney has announced that it will begin issuing Platinum Plus and Premier Annual Passholders with water park access partial refunds in the coming weeks.

    • For Platinum Plus passholders, the refund amount will be based on the price difference between the price paid for the Platinum Plus Pass and the price of a Platinum Annual Pass prorated by the number of days left on the pass prior to water park reopening.
    • For Premier passholders, the refund amount will be based on the difference between a Walt Disney World Platinum Plus pass compared to the price of a Platinum pass prorated by the number of days left on your pass prior to Water Park reopening.

Guests using a monthly payment will receive this refund as a lump sum, and their ongoing monthly payment will not change.

As has been the case previously, Water Parks and Water Parks After 2 Annual Passes will be automatically extended for the period in which both water parks were closed.

Right now Disney has not said definitively which one of their water parks will (hopefully) open in March, but hopefully we’ll learn more in the months ahead as Disney continues to scale up its reopening into the new year.
