While The Mandalorian has gotten most of the attention from the Disney+ launch, the company included a whole slate of original content for debut on its new platform. Baby Yoda notwithstanding, the best of these new features was not the epic Star Wars western series, nor was it the strangely-meta High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

For some people, it’s easy to take a week or a long weekend and head to Walt Disney World for a much-needed break from the everyday grind. For others, a vacation to that part of the country not only requires more planning, but it’s best served as part of a longer trip.

The Disney Parks are not museums, nor should they be. But, Disney sometimes disappoints us in other ways. Instead of taking out an aging attraction and replacing it with something shiny or new — and, instead of giving an old attraction a nice refurbishment — Disney will opt to simply rip something out of one of its parks without a planned replacement.

No matter what method you used to arrive in Orlando, here you are. And you know what you want more than anything else? Some time to stretch your legs. Thankfully, you don’t have to do jumping jacks in the hotel room to satisfy this urge. In fact, the Walt Disney World property and surrounding area is full of great places to get out and walk around.

The village of Harambe does not, in fact, exist. Nor does Harambe appear fully-realized in a multi-billion dollar film series. It is, instead, a community inspired by a handful of specific cultures in Africa — designed as a broad fictional melting pot of those cultures and to serve as a believable jumping off point for an equally-fictional safari.

If you love Walt Disney World, but you still want to branch out, you’re lucky — there are a lot of things present at Disney that are also present in some of America’s great cities. Most places in the world are worth visiting at least once, but if you’re trying to narrow it down to places you think you’ll enjoy, here are a few cities that bear a surprising resemblance to Walt Disney World.

For some, the cost of a rental car — even in Orlando, where they’re among the cheapest in the nation — isn’t a totally negligible amount of money. In fact, it is often the choice between having an extra sit-down meal or two or getting that little Toyota Corolla. It’s not nothing — and the choice isn’t as obvious as a lot of resources make it out to be.

Universal Studios Florida opened in 1990. It turns 30 in 2020. It’s time we start looking at some of that park’s attractions with the same reverence afforded to Disney’s classics. Here are eight attractions and areas at the Universal Orlando resort that should be considered classics, just like Disney’s best.

A movie can be an awesome way to spend an arrival night, or a great spot to spend a few hours on a rainy day. And, Orlando has enough great movie theaters that it’s actually a pretty solid place, all things considered, to see that movie you’ve been waiting all year for. But, as you likely know from your home town, all movie theaters are not created equal.

For the most part, the Walt Disney Company gets things right. They’ve been so good at giving guests and fans things that they didn’t even know they wanted — from themed resort hotels to moving films to TV shows about bounty hunters. But, on occasion, Disney kind of screws up.
