Review

For the most part, the various "lands" or sections of Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom theme park are carefully arranged to include attractions that fit in with the theme of the land. For example, in Frontierland, we get the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and in Liberty Square we get the Hall of Presidents. But when it comes to Tomorrowland, there's one glaring exception to this, and that is with the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway. How exactly this attraction (driving slow moving, track-fitted race cars) fits in with the theme of the future and space adventure, I have no idea.....yet there it is. And what's more.....it's one of THE most popular of attractions with small children in all of Walt Disney World as a whole. Go figure.

The setup and appearance of the attraction is basically like, well, an Indy speedway. You have a grandstand where spectators can sit and watch the young racers as they zoom on their way. You have the various flags and stop/go lights, and a wide variety of different colored vehicles to ride in along this 4/10 of a mile track. Eventually (after 5 minutes of chuggling along at top speeds of 7 mph) you reach the end with the checkered flag waved and you've reached Victory Circle.

Like most attractions, there is a minimum height requirement for children to ride alone (54") in a car, or to be a passenger (32").

For those park guests about 10 and older, you'll know just by looking at it that it's not an attraction you by any means need to wait on line for. And as regards the wait on line, it can get VERY long because the little ones do love it and will drag their parents onto it. The queue is long and winding and the wait just to get up to the car-loading area can be torture.

** Final Thoughts

I pass up going on this attraction 99 times out of 100 (the 1 time being when I have a little one with me insistent on riding) and I'm just fine with that, as would most people. There is SOME good that comes with riding the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway, however.......the smile and excitement on the face of the little one with you who is having the time of his/her life.
