A real estate company has announced ambitious plans to open a movie-based theme park in Dubai, with work scheduled to be completed by late 2014.

Meraas, which is based in Dubai, will invest around $600 million in the Dubai Adventure Studios park, which is planned to be the first wave of a three-phase, eight million square-feet development. The company claims that it will license major Hollywood movie properties for use in the park, with construction due to begin in early 2012.

The Fun Spot amusement park in Orlando, Florida has confirmed that it plans to open a new wooden rollercoaster in 2013, with GCI set to manufacturer the ride.

The addition of the coaster forms part of Fun Spot's ambitious expansion plans, which will also see the addition of a small steel family coaster and a water park. The park will rebrand itself as Fun Spot America when the work is complete.

The Los Angeles-based Ikonic Entertainment Group is set to design a new $3.1 billion martial-arts themed park for China's Hubei Province, according to reports.

The Wall Street Journal claims that the project will be funded by local partner Hubei Wudang Taichi Lake Investment Group Co, with an official announcement expected on December 6, 2011. The park will celebrate the region's historic association with martial arts, and will feature a $50 million live show.

The Fun Spot amusement park in Orlando, Florida, is planning to open a new water park and two new roller coasters as part of an ambitious expansion plan.

The park, located on International Drive a short distance from Walt Disney World and the Universal Orlando Resort, is hoping to complete the 10-acre expansion by March 2013. As well as an all-new water park, it hopes to expand its existing line-up of thrill rides by opening a steel roller coaster and a wooden coaster. The plans must be approved by Orlando authorities before work can commence.

A new store selling collectible theme park merchandise is set to open in Winter Garden, Florida on December 3, 2011, and will also offer its wares via eBay.

Theme Park Connection will sell a range of items including props, costumes, trading pins and other memorabilia, which will be hosted in a 4,000 square foot warehouse. Located around 15 minutes drive from Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, a large proportion of the store's inventory will be Disney-related.

The UK government has rejected a £5.6 million funding bid from the developers of the planned Visions of China theme park, although the project is still active.

The total cost of Visions of China, which would see a former opencast coal mine near Rotherham converted into a tourist attraction, is estimated at £110 million. Its backers had hoped to secure a slice of this from the government's Regional Growth Fund, but the application has been declined.
