Happily Ever After, Disney

Disney parks are constantly changing their refurbishment schedules, making it difficult for guests to keep up with the operating times and latest news regarding their favorite attractions, resorts, shops, and restaurants. Here are a few big, upcoming changes that are either confirmed by their respective parks or at the least very strongly rumored for the very near future.

Last month, the Haunted Mansion closed for a short refurbishment to begin the installation of The Hatbox Ghost. This month we continue to see a whole host of evenings when the nighttime spectacular at the Magic Kingdom, "Happily Ever After" will not be performed due to Mickey's Not-so-Scary Halloween Party which kicked off on August 11. Splash Mountain remains closed in order to undergo its reimagining to Tiana's Bayou Adventure which is set to open in late 2024.

Blizzard Beach continues to be closed with a reopening date still not confirmed, however, it appears that from the official Walt Disney World calendar that there are no scheduled hours for either water park from October 1 onwards meaning Disney could be considering a closure for Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and a reopening for Blizzard Beach in the near future. We still await news on rumors that one show and one experience may never return to Walt Disney World.

1. Happily Ever After (Magic Kingdom)

Status: Confirmed

Dates: Select evenings, September - December 2023

"Happily Ever After" returned to Disney's Magic Kingdom on April 3, replacing "Disney's Enchantment" which debuted for Walt Disney World's 50th Anniversary celebrations.

It has been confirmed that "Happily Ever After" will not be performed on certain evenings from September through the December when events are taking place at the park. The list below shows the evenings when this popular nighttime spectacular will not be available due to Mickey's Not-so-Scary Halloween Party:

  • August: 11, 15, 18, 22, 25, 29
  • September: 1, 4, 8, 10, 12, 15, 17, 19, 22, 24, 26, 28, 29
  • October: 1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 22, 24, 26, 27, 29, 31
  • November: 1

Below are the dates in November and December when "Happily Ever After" will not be performed due to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party nights. This event will feature Minnie's Wonderful Christmastime fireworks:

  • November: 9, 10, 13, 14, 16, 17, 19, 21, 22, 26, 28, 30
  • December: 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 10, 12, 14, 15, 17, 19, 21, 22

2. Blizzard Beach

Status: Confirmed

Dates: March 18 - TBA 2023

Blizzard Beach reopened in November 2022 having been closed since January 2022 for refurbishment. At this point, Disney's Typhoon Lagoon closed for its annual refurbishment. It was announced that Blizzard Beach would close again at the end of the day on March 18 for further refurbishment. Disney's Typhoon Lagoon reopened on March 19.

Disney has not released a time line for this current refurbishment and on the official website it still reads, "Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park is currently closed for refurbishment. However, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park is open!"

We still don't have a confirmed reopening date for Blizzard Beach and had hoped to see both Disney water parks operating at the same time over the summer period which has unfortunately not come to fruition.

It now appears from the official Walt Disney World calendar that there are no scheduled hours for either water park from October 1 onwards meaning Disney could be considering a closure for Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and a reopening for Blizzard Beach in the near future. We will confirm this as soon as it is announced.

3. Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

Status: Confirmed

Dates: September 30 - Permanent

At the end of May, Disney made the shocking announcement that their most immersive experience; Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will take its last voyage Sept. 28-30 meaning that after only 18 months since its official debut in March 2022, it will close permanently.

New bookings had been paused in order for those booked on voyages after Sept 28 to rearrange to earlier ones at a 50% discount. New bookings reopened May 28, Disney fans wanting to get their last chance to experience the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser frantically tried to book but it wasn't long before all voyages were SOLD OUT.

But, it looks like all hope is not completely lost for those who have not been able to book a voyage as there may be some availability if people decide to cancel. Our advice is to keep checking online regularly to see if anything opens up.

4. Voyage Of The Little Mermaid (Disney's Hollywood Studios)

Status: Confirmed

Dates: March 2020 - TBA

Voyage of the Little Mermaid at Disney's Hollywood Studios is the one show that Disney has remained quiet about since the theme parks reopened in July 2020 after the closures due to COVID-19 which began in March 2020.

Well, it now looks like the official website page for the Voyage of the Little Mermaid has been deleted and now only reads "Someone Ate the Page!" with a picture of Stitch on it.

Voyage of the Little Mermaid was a spectacular indoor show at Disney's Hollywood Studios retelling the story of The Little Mermaid live, with Ariel, Flounder, and all their underwater (and land) friends. The story was retold with memorable songs and colorful puppets.

There have been rumors floated that there could be an Encanto themed show to replace the Voyage of the Little Mermaid. We know there has been a lot of noise about bringing an Encanto themed attraction to Walt Disney World and this location would certainly be ideal to showcase the extremely successful Madrigals! There has not be anything confirmed by Disney so far and we will keep you updated on the fate of Voyage of the Little Mermaid as and when it is announced.

5.  Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple (Disney's Hollywood Studios)

Status: Confirmed

Dates: March 2020 - TBA

There hasn't been any official announcement from Disney in the last couple of years about the fate of the Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple and the stage has remained empty with nothing taking place on it. There still hasn't been official word from Disney that the Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple will never return but we heard in July that the sign showing performance times has been removed and the official page on the Walt Disney World website has been taken down and now reads "Someone Ate the Page!" and a photo of Stitch on it.

Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple allowed children aged 4-12 to train like Jedi and learn to wield a lightsaber and be one with the Force. Once trained, these young Padawans would test their skills against Star Wars villains.

If indeed Disney is planning to never bring Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple back to Disney's Hollywood Studios, we hope something new comes to this currently unused stage. It would be brilliant to finally see this area being used once again. We will keep you posted on further updates on Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple but we must admit at the moment things aren't looking good for the return of this Star Wars attraction.
